The abstract submission deadline is 15 February 2009 and the reduced meeting registration fee deadline is 31 March 2009.

Dr. Matthew Baron - 2008 Resident Research Award!


Congratulations on behalf of all ACVR Diplomates to Dr. Matthew Baron, University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, for receiving the second 2008 Resident Research Award of the year. He was awarded a grant for his proposed research  “Ultrasonographic observation of secretin-induced pancreatic duct dilation in healthy cats”. He joins Dr. Sophie Dennison, University of Wisconsin, who received the first award of 2008. Dr. Dennison's grant was entitled "Effect of anesthesia, positioning and temporal variation on radiographic evaluation of parrot coelomic organs".


Congratulations to the New 2008 ACVR Diplomates!


The following individuals passed the 2008 Radiology Board Certification Examination in early September: Drs. Tasha Axam, Elizabeth Ballegeer, Laurent Blond, Erin Brinkman, Graham Burns, Laura Crews, Randi Drees, Elizabeth Girard, Mason Holland, Shannon Holmes, Marina Ivancic, Winnie Lo, Tsoyoshi Murakami, James Naughton, Nathan Nelson, Richard Page, Yael Porat-Mosenco, David Reese, Ryan Schultz, and Alejandro Valdes-Martinez. In addition, passing the 2008 Radiation Oncology Board Certification Examination in early September were: Drs. David Bommarito, Siobhan Haney and Keijiro Shiomitsu. Congratulations to the new Diplomates on behalf of the ACVR!


Dr. Christopher Ober - 2008 Resident Author Award!


Dr. Christopher Ober has won this year's Resident Author award for his paper entitled "Comparison of Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Detection of Acute Wooden Foreign Bodies in the Canine Manus". This paper appeared in the September/October issue of the journal Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, Vol. 49, No. 5, 2008, pp 411–418, and was published online August 28, 2008. This year there were 28 entrants, an all time high. Papers are ranked by the Associate Editors and the highest ranked paper receives the award. Congratulations to Dr. Ober!

Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound has a Free Digital Radiography Supplement available to everyone. According to Dr. Wm. Tod Drost, Guest Editor, "This Supplemental issue is intended to help educate the veterinary community, from veterinary radiologists to private practice veterinarians, about digital radiography and the components associated with it." Please check it out if you are considering switching to digital radiography.


New CT/MRI Case of the Month!


Members of the CT/MRI Society have contributed excellent cross-sectional imaging cases from their collections and practices. Cases created in 2008 and later can be viewed through your web browser without additional software. Please see the new CT/MRI Society Case of the Month. The cases will be made available to CT/MRI Society Members initially, but will be available to others after 1 month starting with May 2008.

ACVR Imaging Guidelines!


The ACVR is in the process of making recommendations concerning digital radiography and imaging for the veterinary profession. The ACVR Digital Imaging Standards Committee (DISC) considered a broad outline of standards and recommendations that could be used to advise the veterinary profession. Visit the Guidelines section to see the newly adopted 'Resolution & DICOM Guidelines' and 'Teleradiology Guidelines'.


Textbook of Veterinary Nuclear Medicine


svnm_bookThe "Textbook of Veterinary Nuclear Medicine", edited by Drs. Gregory B. Daniel and Clifford R. Berry, is now available for purchase in the Society of Veterinary Nuclear Medicine Store. The textbook covers small and large animals (limited) and the book's purpose is to advance the field of veterinary nuclear medicine by providing an instructional aid to those learning the subject as well as to serve as a reference text for those performing routine nuclear medicine studies. The textbook is 422 pages long and includes a CD with case materials on all of the topics covered within the book.
